Romney Marsh Skills Festival
Students getting to grips with the art of Longbow making.
In early May a most splendid event took place in the form of the Romney Marsh Skills Festival with the intention of bringing knowledge of the many skilled career prospects available to young people in Kent. This was a unique chance for students to learn about the opportunities available in fields as diverse as aeronautics, butchery, gold and silver ware manufacture, longbow making and of course world trade.
Past Master Robert Alston, chairman of the event and his wife Pat had a large part in organising the event that had the patronage of The Lord Lieutenant of Kent, the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, the Chairman of Kent County Council and most importantly from a City perspective, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Michael Bear.
Over 30 City Livery Companies supported the event and the World Traders made a grant from it's Charitable Trust to help in making the event a great success. The Master, Graham Bishop together with his wife Sally visited the event on Friday 6th May together with Immediate Past Master Michael Wren and his wife Carol and Liveryman Andy Prindl.
